2019 Building Energy Efficiency Standards

California’s Building Energy Efficiency Standards are issued for the year 2019, and this will go into effect on January 1, 2020.

As such, the newly adopted code will be effective for any building permit applications submitted on or after that date.

Impactful Solar Panel Requirements

The new standards have become a game changer in the industry,
because it will require all new single-family homes and low-rise apartments to install solar panels or tap into community solar power.
Other major changes from this new standard include more aggressive requirements on domestic hot water solar preheat, residential energy rating system, and non-residential ventilation and windows.
