58th Street Apartment
Scope of Work | New Construction |
Location | Los Angeles, CA |
Completion | Under Design |
PQNK designed a new construction of a 100% affordable 5-story building with 208 units. With parking on the ground level and four story residential building above, this building is situated on a prominent corner site across Slauson Avenue and will serve as one of the main entry to Central Alameda. With the existing use being a 1-story storage building, the new construction seeks to bring visibility to nearby retail stores and enable accessibility to urban resources that will benefit the residents as well as the city as a whole.
The slab-like building mass has two different characters. On the north longitudinal elevation facing downtown and Central Alameda, a grand marquee of canopy made of corrugated metal marks the intersection of the building mass while extending the building mass towards the street. On the south longitudinal elevation facing Florence and retailing infrastructure, the building shifts its facade with idiosyncratic formal and structural nodes which can be seen by the diagrid structure on the ground level and the unique layouts of the window placements.
