The Harvard apartment project is located in Los Angeles’ Koreatown neighborhood, a vibrant area with a unique dynamism. This project aims to house 11 units, providing for the rapidly growing population in the area. While densification was necessary for the client’s request, PQNK looked for a way to provide as many amenities possible to the residents. To meet this challenge, we performed thorough feasibility studies and had diligent discussions with the client and consultants.
PQNK’s rigorous design process produced an effective solution: a 3-story residential building sitting atop a 1-story residential/parking building with a subterranean parking level. This makes an effective use of 9,010 square feet lot, which usually fits a single-family house. Because the surroundings consist of traditional houses and old apartments, a contemporary exterior design that does not disrupt the surrounding area is applied to maintain the neighborhood fabric.
